32 is an extraordinary number.
32 degrees Fahrenheit is an extraordinary measurement.
It's the difference between a ho-hum, wet, rainy day, and a layer of shimmering slippery ice on the world.
It's a number that we've all become VERY interested in for the last three days!
Here's the BIG thermometer that I got for Christmas...I KNEW it would come in handy!! And now I know that it works because it reads 32, and there's the layer of ice on the trees and shrubs.
Oh, let me get in closer and prove that point.
Ice Coatings...
Now, with a nice, warm, cozy house, we're just fine.
But what about my little wild bird friends???
Will their restaurants be able to open for business with real icicle decorations???
The restaurant outside the living room window...
And how about the restaurant outside the front bedroom window...
Maybe the one outside the master bedroom window might have some visitors,
although the hedgebush branches have sagged down so much that they may have trouble finding the place...
Well, as the chief cook (errrr, seeder filler), I made sure the plates were full...
And lo and behold, my hungry patrons began to show up!!
Chickadee on the left, with the seed in his beak,
and next to him the tail feather end of a Goldfinch, beak end in the seeds!
Roof perching is NOT encouraged, especially on top of a half inch of ice...
We don't have insurance for that kind of wild behavior.
However, this is an expert climber and his feet are gripping the cord that holds the top on the feeder!!
(He also weighs less than 5 ounces,
and therefore doesn't pose a threat to others or himself...)
Now, if we were talking about a goose...but they don't visit my restaurants!!
How about some funny captions...!!
"'About time you opened this gin joint up, I'm cold and starved!"
**shiver** "YyyyyES, you nit-wit, my feet are cold, I'm ppperching on ICE!!"
Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal try to ignore that "other" bird,
who shows them that it's the tail end of the conversation.
A little song sparrow makes sure the doves don't unbalance the tray,
while Ms. Cardinal waits her turn on the left in the tree.
"MY SUNFLOWER SEED !!!"
"Seriously, does this window make my butt look big???"
It seems that we're slowly moving out from this winter weirdness...sun is forecast for Friday!!
Hope you had fun on your visit to Hilltop!!
See you next time.....
