A Long Time Ago...

In a Galaxy Far, Far Away....

NO! NO!  That's the wrong opening line.
Wait a sec...Actually it does fit this story, because the two major characters
(me and a remarkable friend of mine) became fanatics for a show called "Dr. Who", about a time traveler.
(specifically years 1974-1981).  We were in pre--school (har-har!!)

So it does fit the opening line 'cause that was kind of a long time ago.
And our minds have always been far, far away.

But the story here concerns our favorite Dr. Who (the Fourth), Tom Baker...who looked like this:

Yeah, we were drawn to the deranged look.
But the real story here has to do with an item in his wardrobe.  He's wearing it there.  And especially here:

Get a look at that SCARF!  His absolute trademark.  According to a reliable source,  yes, I DO trust Wikipedia...
The distinctive scarf came about by accident:  the costume designer had provided far more wool than was necessary to the knitter, Begonia Pope, and Ms. Pope knitted all the wool she was given; it was Baker who suggested that he wear the resulting—ridiculously over-long—scarf.

Fact: Tom Baker is 6'3" tall and the scarf gently circles round his neck...
Best Guess: The scarf is near to 15' long.

Some extremely clever, ambitious and rabid dedicated fans have reconstructed the scarf.

I was not one of them.  But, back in the day,  I encouraged one, so I think that makes me a conspirator.

So, back there in the day,

after days, weeks, months of crocheting row after row after (yup, you get it)...., 

this is the Scarf which emerged, a tribute to our obsession.

It is simply stupendous.

Each of the floor tiles is 12" (verified by the ruler) and the scarf stretches from dining room to kitchen.

15 Feet.

And so you may be wondering what all this has to do with Snow and Deep Freeze.

Now, I'm no fashion expert (no comment, anyone!)

but I'm thinking that Uncle Frosty could pull off a more flamboyant flair...

And here it is!!

My dear friend in Tucson who is responsible for the original scarf-of-madness will read this blog and find it daft and absolutely fitting that Uncle Frosty should be sporting this beauty.  Then she'll wonder where the TARDIS is, so we can start time traveling again.

P.S.  The Dr. Who series was wacky, funny, campy, but actually had storylines and special effects...well, that's what they called them then...and you'll have to watch to find out what a TARDIS is  (Time and Relative Dimensions in Space...!) ~~smile~~
